Trail Goats, a bike school located in the Swiss Alps, acquired the CO2 Neutral label

Trail Goats was born in Brig-Glis, in the heart of the Alps, surrounded by majestic four-thousand-meter peaks and furrowed by glaciers and valleys, which makes the region a true paradise for trails.

As passionate mountain bikers, Trail Goats offers numerous trails through the mountains, providing an authentic experience amidst stunning scenery. The trails, which are not only the longest and most varied in the Alps, are also spectacular thanks to the panorama.

As expected, Trail Goats is aware that all activities impact nature. That’s why they use public transportation and share awareness with their clients. In addition, the company quantifies and neutralizes CO2 emissions from the transportation, in partnership with Eccaplan.

It is very important to show respect for nature, wildlife and visitors, said a Trail Goats spokesperson.

Many companies aim to incorporate sustainability into their management and are gradually implementing practices in all the pillars that foster sustainable development.

Carbon Neutralization and CO2 Neutral label

Carrying out any activity in companies or at events, whether small or large, results in carbon emissions (CO2) into the atmosphere, contributing to the aggravation of global warming.

The main Brazilian tool for the inventory of carbon emissions is the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, made available by GVces, which makes an inventory of emissions and environmental compensation through carbon neutralization, in addition to acting effectively in the fight against climate change.

Trail Goats carried out the GHG emissions inventory from July 2020 to June 2021.

To carry out carbon offsetting, data on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are collected and, after collection, emissions are calculated using the GHG Protocol program. After knowing its environmental impact in terms of kg CO2, we carry out environmental compensation through carbon neutralization.

Thus, all carbon emissions emitted are offset in the same proportion by the acquisition of carbon credits in projects such as the REDD + Maísa Project. As a result, Trail Goats was awarded the CO2 Neutral label by Eccaplan Consultoria em Sustentabilidade in 2020 and now maintains it in 2021, as it offsets around 182 kg of CO2.

REDD + Maisa Project

Located in the endemic center of Belém, Pará, a region of great importance for Amazonian biodiversity, the REDD+ Maísa Project aims to promote the conservation and valuation of the forest through its multiple uses.

The historical context of the region is marked by high deforestation rates, a fact that reinforces the importance of the project’s strategies, which involve the improvement of monitoring processes in the area, providing protection for species in critical danger of extinction, in addition to promoting agricultural and extractive activities.

The REDD+ Maisa project contemplates 2 of the 17 UN objectives, namely:

  • Item 13 – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts by regulating emissions and promoting developments in renewable energy.
  • Item 15 – Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

How important is it to carry out environmental compensation?

Planet Earth has already warmed 2°C, it seems little, but the effects are already devastating, and with a direct impact on our health, food production and economy. The main factor responsible for this warming is the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere every day.

In the most recent international climate treaty, the Paris Agreement, signed in 2015, Brazil made a commitment to reduce its emissions by 37% by 2025. For this to happen is necessary to contain deforestation, recover forests and promote the development and the use of clean technologies. And initiatives must come from all actors in society, including private companies.

Therefore, carbon offsetting through carbon neutralization by encouraging social and environmental projects is essential for the country to achieve its goal, promoting a low-carbon economy and a more prosperous planet for all.

Learn more about Eccaplan

ECCAPLAN’s objective is to assist organizations in the management of sustainability, providing a diagnosis of their social and environmental actions, analyzing risks and opportunities for each business, in order to improve the performance of organizations from the perspective of the best sustainability practices in Brazil and in the world.

We carry out Emission Inventories to carry out carbon neutralization, using the GHG Protocol methodology.

In addition to sustainability reports in different guidelines such as: GRI – Global Reporting Initiative, ISE – Índice de Sustentabilidade Empresarial and CDP – Carbon Disclosure Project.
